IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy can provide long-lasting relief from your dry eye symptoms with an in-office procedure that targets the root of your dry, inflamed eyes in a few short sessions.
How Does it Work?
IPL uses electromagnetic waves of a desired wavelength to dilate the capillaries, causing them to shrivel up. This results in decreased inflammatory mediators brought to the eyelid, breaking the cycle of inflammation that destroys the oil glands in the eyelids.
Chronic inflammation changes the consistency of the oil to be more waxy, resulting in a higher melting temperature. This creates glands that are filled with thick sludge-like oil.
Over time, the gland becomes damaged from the inflammation and lack of oil flow, causing the gland dropout and eventually gland death.

How Does it work?
RF treatments use heat generated by electrical currents and apply it to the inner layer of the skin around your eyes. The heat melts any waxy, oily substances that are blocking the meibomian glands. This can help to restore the normal function of the glands, which can begin to secrete healthy oil into your tears.
By increasing the skin’s temperature for a defined therapeutic time, the skin triggers a natural release of collagen that will help minimize the appearance of facial fine lines and wrinkles.
RF can be performed alone or in combination with IPL. For best results, the two treatments should be combined in most cases. Your eye doctor will recommend the best treatment plan for your dry eye disease.
